Tribe blesses lesbian 'marriage'

Some happy news on an otherwise bad day! New meaning to "everyday is like Sunday".

Congratulations to them! I wish them well.

That caption under their photo worries me, though: "The two have had unhappy experiences with men in the past." Their love is about way more than their pasts with men, dear BBC.

Oh Yolanda, that is so true! I didn't even notice the caption under the photo, "yes, BBC they only because lesbians cause they hate men now".

You know what I like most about this story?

Over here in the "west" (or even in the "westernized" parts of the Global south - in India too), we like to believe we carry this knowledge torch. That we're the only ones who can make benevolent/humanist/intelligent decisions about 'rights' - and here's two tribal women who traded OXEN and RICE to get a marriage ceremony performed. Not the 'classy/educated in a post-colonial institution/wealthy/liberal minded' poster children for lesbian/gay rights. Just two women who loved each other and wanted everyone else to know it.

Damn nice me thinks.
